How to Play Keno
Players begin by picking up to 20 numbers between 1 and 80. The player then makes a wager on their picks. The casino then chooses 20 random numbers between 1 and 80 using some form of random number generator. Players then look at how the numbers they picked correspond to the 20 numbers randomly selected by the casino. Each number that matches one of the numbers selected by the casino is called a “catch”. The more numbers caught the bigger the payout will be. For example, if you chose to play 6 numbers wagering $1 and caught 3 you will win even money. If you play 6 numbers and catch 6 then you win something like $1500 for the $1 wager.
There are now many Keno variations that you can play including Power Keno, Super Keno, Extra Draw Keno, Triple Trouble Keno, Caveman Keno and more. All variations have slight differences in both the way the game is played and the payouts for winning picks. For example, in power keno if the player catches the 20th ball that is drawn all winnings are quadrupled or in extra draw keno the player has the option to purchase 3 more balls for the price of their original bet.
Example
Let’s say you choose to play 5 numbers and select (2,7,19,75,78). You place a $1 wager and the casino then selects 20 random numbers and you catch 3 of them. Catching 3 numbers on a 5 spot keno card will usually result in a win, but the amount varies from casino to casino. You could win anywhere between 1 to 2 and 2 to 1 on your money.
Basic Strategy
There is no real strategy when it comes to Keno. Regardless of how many numbers you choose to play the payouts will correspond to the odds equally. If you are looking for a big pay day you can play more numbers, whereas if you are just wanting to have more winning tickets you can play less. Either way your expected value will be the same.
